Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson Arizona

We are here in Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and staying at the Agave Gulch Fam Camp, RV Park/Resort.  This RV Park is very nice and organized, however the spaces are a little to close for our comfort.  It is a great place to stay for a" home base" while you sight see the area around Tucson, Arizona.  Our favorite place to date has been Fort Hauchuca which is south of Tucson, Arizona but I guess each place has it's benefits...like the beach in San Diego.  Today, there was suppose to be an Air Show but the weather is bad...it's rainy and grey...hey just like Portland, Oregon !

Bone yard I believe !
Who knows what type of plane this is...I don't !
We will be here until Sunday, April 22 at which time we will be heading north towards home. We should arrive in Boise, Idaho May 4, 2012 and then onto Portland, Oregon May 13, 2012. We plan to stop and visit Grand Canyon and Monument Valley in Arizona and then onto Glen Canyon, Zion Natl Park, and Bryce canyon in Utah.

We try and stay at  military bases and forts as much as we can. We find it is cheaper and has everything we could need and use.  We use the commissary and the Base/Post Exchange, (PX/BX), which saves us even more.  The commissary alone saves us 35% on our groceries.  We even went bowling too !  Here it is $1.00 a game...what a deal !

I have really enjoyed talking with fellow military retirees. No matter what branch we served in or our military rank, which means nothing now, we do have our stories and lies we share at "Happy Hour".  "Happy Hour" means we bring a chair and sit outside by someone RV and have a few drinks and chat.  We have met many military retires fulltiming in their RVs and they are so willing to share their experiences. We have made friends and will see each other again!

On Thursday we went to Biosphere 2.  This is the place where 8 people lived in for 2 years to see if it could be done without external support.  It was interesting and different.  The movie "BioDome" was not filmed here..lol

Yesterday we went to Old Tucson Studios. Old Tucson has hosted over 300 movies and TV series since 1939 including Western film classics as "Rio Bravo", The Outlaw Josey Wales, Tombstone and the John  Wayne movie "McLintock".  They had gun fights and shows that were very entertaining. Andy even had a sip of Rum and Coke...can you believe that !

Oh Well...better he than me !

Place where they filmed "Three Amigos"

In the next few days, when the weather improves, we plan on visiting Pima Air Museum, Colossal Caves, Titan Missile Silo, Saguaro Natl Park and Pima County Fair. Will keep you posted !
