Imperial Dam Recreation Area, Yuma, AZ

We made it to Yuma around 5 P.M. yesterday.  It only took us over 6 hours to go 220 miles. lol !  We drove for over 60 miles just to get out of the city...could have been half way to Eugene from Portland, Oregon. Southern California is warm and beautiful but it's not for me.  To many people and way too big !

We did have a brake issue that will need to be addressed in a few days.  The brakes over heated and smoked as we were coming down a 7% grade, we dropped 4200 feet to sea level in 6 miles. Yes Brent I used a lower gear ! When we noticed the smell was coming from US and not the truck in front of us we pulled over and let those darn things cool. That took about 40 minutes or so. After they cooled down a bit we made it to Yuma which was about 75 miles with no problem. What is it with me? When I smell something like that I always think it is the vehicle in front of me !  LOL  I will work on that.

Where we are staying at in the Imperial Dam Rec Area is called Hurricane Ridge.  The area is opened to RV's that are self contained because there are no services.  That means...no electric..sewer hook ups..or water! As a matter of fact the only way for me to do this blog and check out the Internet is when the generator is running.  We are roughing it! lol   This is BLM Land.  It costs $70 for six months to stray here or $10 a day but since a am a VA rated veteran it will only cost me half of that amount .  : + )  The weather today and this week is suppose to be 75-80 degrees with sunny skies...Don't be haters now !  lol

We will be here until Sunday morning, March 4, 2012.  We have a date with Barbara and Otto just outside of Coolidge, AZ. Will be there for a week or two.  From there... we have no idea!
